Child Protection

The Next Generation Project is committed to providing an environment for young people which is safe, fun and follows recommended good practice. We are committed to planning our work so that situations in which abuse may occur, are minimised.

The abuse of children and young people – physically, emotionally and sexually – is a sad fact of life. Children and young people may be abused regardless of their age, gender, religious belief, sexuality, culture or ability. Abuse is usually carried out by someone the young person knows and trusts.

In 1993, the Government produced a code of practice for adults working with young people – “Safe from Harm”. Our policy and procedures are based on these guidelines.

It is our policy to take all reasonable steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all children and young people involved in its work. We strive to work to good practice in both health & safety and the way we recruit volunteers and paid staff. Our Policy is be available to any young person using our services or a member of the public on request.

Our procedures are based on good practice, are practical and achievable.

Staff: We strive to follow good employment practice in the recruitment of all staff. If we are uncertain about an applicant’s ability, credibility or identity, this will be a key factor in our decision to appoint them. Our employment practice includes application forms, taking references, positive identity checks and Criminal Records Bureau Disclosures.
